Savi’s Workshop Lightsaber Hilt Tightening Hack

We here at RENEVforge are creating great custom add-ons to the Disney Star Wars, Galaxy’s Edge, Black Spire Outpost, Savi’s Workshop Lightsaber. All of our RS Lightsaber parts are interchangeable with the Savi’s Lightsaber parts. Just a quick disclaimer, we are not affiliated in any way with Disney or any of its properties. We are a fan site and offer some add on parts to Savi’s sabers. We do not sell Savi’s sabers. They can be purchased at Disneyland, Disneyworld, and eBay.

In addition to these creations, part of our goal here at RENEVforge is to make the Savi’s Workshop Lightsaber perform better. Our parts offer tighter tolerances thus removing much of the “slop” in the existing Savi’s saber hilts. Any remaining “slop” in the hilt scrap parts can be eliminated by the simple hack described herein.

The part of the Savi’s saber that is the culprit here is the switch. The sleeves/grips depend on the stability of the switch to eliminate and slop in the system. The switch pieces “scraps” are cast and have a great deal of play when assembled on the plastic hilt base. The switch scraps don’t move too much in the vertical direct but move a fair bit rotationally and side to side. This movement allows the grips to move also.

So now on to the solution:

  • Tools: Scissors
  • Materials: 3/4″ wide Electrical Tape

Cut 3 pieces of 3/4″ wide electical tape 1″ long. Cut each of these pieces in half lengthwise leaving 6 pieces of 3/8″ wide tape 1″ long.

Next take the switch half with the blue tab and lay 3 layers of electrical tape near the bottom of the inside of the piece. (The blue tab is near the top on the blue tabbed switch piece.) Tape pieces do not have to be perfectly aligned as seen in the photo below:

Switch Backplate (Blue Tabbed)

Next take the switch half with the red tab and lay 3 layers of electrical tape near the top of the inside of the piece. (The red tab is near the bottom on the red tabbed switch piece.) Once again, the tape pieces do not have to be perfectly aligned as seen in the photo below:

Switch Frontplate (Red Tabbed)

Finally reassemble the switch pieces on the hilt base. The tape should occupy just enough space to remove most of the slop in the switch.

  1. Thanks for the tip! I was surprised with the how sturdy my peace and justice saber was after reading the horror stories of wobbly or loose scrap. However, I could still feel a bit of slop when forcefully swinging the saber. This trick completely fixed that and now my saber feels 100% solid.

    1. A little bit of wobble is good to help absorb shock do 100% dolido is not ideal
